The water dragon journey to Marble Bar

2012 is the year of the Water dragon and Western Australia’s hot spot Pilbara township of Marble Bar is celebrating the theme with an evening ball prior to the Marble Bar races (6th July).  Ball host, Annabelle, commissioned Hats by Felicity to create a headpiece to compliment the theme and with great pleasure I have created this bespoke piece for Annabelle to wear on the night.

Creating the headpiece was the first challenge ….ensuring it’s safe arrival to Marble Bar, however was a whole other challenge, particularly given the event is less than a week away.

Posts were made on Facebook and within half an hour a plan was in place and the dragon was on it’s first leg to Marble Bar, in the trusty Subaru Forester out to the cattle yards about 20kms out of Broome, where she was handed over to a helpful truck driver who nestled her safely on the front seat and with a load of cattle on the back, the Dragon departed in the early hours of the morning and travelled down the Great Northern highway from the Kimberley, into the Pilbara and to it’s first destination … Pardoo roadhouse.  Stay tuned for the next leg of the Dragon’s journey as it makes it’s way to Marble Bar.

Fusing the creativity

We love a little creativity and especially when two heads combine to create the one masterpiece; which is what Jemma Keen from Bohemia for Hair and Felicity Brown (AKA me) from Hats by Felicity have been up to; so with great excitement and pride we hereby launch the new headwear fashion product called The Fusion.

Fusing the creative talents of millinery and hair styling, The Fusion is a creative mix of headpiece and hairstyle, resulting in a fashion statement such as this:

Created by Hats by Felicity, The Fusion starts it’s worn art journey similar to this:

When the millinery work is done, the hairdressing work has begun:

The pink leaves in this piece are a gorgeous mix of silk and velvet, enjoyed from all angles and fused with an intricate hairstyle that completes The Fusion work of worn art.

Keep an eye out for The Fusion pictured here, that will be extended by creation for its next trackside outing and fused differently again with the hair.

The Fusion is a custom made creation; if you are interested in your own design for the upcoming race season we welcome you to contact us at Hats by Felicity – just make sure you book the hairdresser for appointment too.

Enjoy.  x

Home from the Northern adventure

Such an adventure is the Northern Territory and the North West Kimberley and what better way to showcase the new Hats by Felicity collection than travelling a hat box of 12 chosen pieces on the latest Milliner on the move trip to Darwin and Kununurra.

Three gorgeous pieces found new homes during this trip and I also proudly donated a headpiece to the Kununurra St John Ambulance Gibb River Challenge, raising money for ultra marathon burns victims, Kate Sanderson and Turia Pitt. Dusky Bliss is the gorgeous headpiece to keep an eye out for in the auction. Image The proud new owners of “Kimberley calling” “Nutmeg Joy” and “Freckle” have promised to send pics of them out and about and we will be sure to update you with those.

Meanwhile, the [below] pieces are about to be unpacked after the journey, so I thought it might be a bit of fun to offer an early bird discount of 10% for these flower pieces TODAY ONLY (Wednesday 18th April) before I transfer them back to the studio display. The flowers are a part of the “Weddings, parties, events” collection; created for people that love to wear a flower in their hair to anywhere. Contact me on 0438 927489. Cheers x

The Milliner is on the move again …

A cheeky little collection of Hats by Felicity is in Darwin for another few days, before flying to the Kimberley’s East, into Kununurra for a week.

Darwin’s adventure included the privilege of attending the wedding of David O’Hare and Sara Storer; and the added privilege of designing and creating both the veil and bridal headpiece for Sara.

Image

Sara wore both the veil and bridal headpiece for the ceremony and later removed the veil and wore the headpiece (silk and velvet rose on vintage veiling), for the reception.

Sara and Dave’s was a special and truly beautiful wedding; with celebrity guest appearances that entertained us through the fabulous night.

The wedding may be over (sob) but the millinery excitement continues as Hats by Felicity showcases a collection through the Top End; including the below pieces

If you are in Darwin and Kununurra and would like to view the collection in person, please don’t hesitate to contact me for a private viewing.

Hats by Felicity on parade in Cloncurry

The Hats by Felicity collection has arrived home to Broome from the Cloncurry adventure, minus “Black Bling,” which I donated for the charity auction.  Congratulations to local lady Jane Walsh, who was the successful bidder for the headpiece, which is a sinamay disk of fabulous millinery fabrics constructed on a headband.

Image

Congratulations also to Kylie Warrian and her team who impressively raised $18,500 for the McGrath Froundation through the Breast Friends Day event that will be held again next year on the 9th March; so pop the date in your diary if you will be near Cloncurry Qld.

In the meantime, enjoy these pics of Hats by Felicity being modelled at the parade on the day & stay tuned because the milliner is about to be on the move again …

A feather for your hat

One of the most beautiful components of a headpiece or hat is the feathers that adorn it; and I am constantly overwhelmed with the stunning feathers that arrive into my studio from across the country, either by post or personally delivered; hand collected and lovingly passed on.
Feathers are always soaking at my place and for those that really want to kick back and relax, preening the feathers is the therapeutic activity that follows.
Here is an example of the calibre of feathers that arrive; these were collected by Parna Lawless in Perth. – a huge Thank You to Parna.

Every collection of feathers has a story, which in turn creates a story for the piece and keeps them not only unique by design but also by nature.
Keep watching to see in which millinery creations these stunning feathers will sit.

ps – no bird was harmed during the collection of these feathers …

Can’t keep away from Cloncurry

This weekend, 10th March 2012, a special “Breast Friends Day” event takes place at the Cloncurry racecourse, Qld, in support of the McGrath Foundation; and very proudly, Hats by Felicity will be a part of this fundraising event having sent a collection of custom made headpieces to adorn the models parading on the day.  Responsible for this event is local resident Kylie Warrian, who I met during my Milliner on the move visit to Cloncurry in May last year.  Kylie works tirelessly co-ordinating this afternoon that runs from midday till 6pm; and as a fellow fundraiser also determined to make a difference for the same cause in the fight against cancer, it is with pleasure that I have also donated a headpiece to be auctioned on the day; along with the other amazing items that Kylie has sourced, including the opportunity for four people to attend a sunday with Gai Waterhouse at her stables.

This is the donation headpiece, which is a stylish headband disk called “Black Bling”.

The Hats by Felicity collection will be available for sale after the parade at the Breast Friends Day through “The Bower” Business stall owned by Penny Back, so pop in and see Penny and all her adorable wears.

If you are attending the Breast Friends Day in Cloncurry this weekend, dig deep for the cause; and enjoy.

2011 – now the dust has settled

Milliner on the Move headed interstate in 2011 with the Hats by Felicity collection unveiled at events in Western Australia, Queensland, NSW and Victoria.

135 Hats by Felicity creations were individually designed, crafted and adorned by race goers across the country, as well as brides and wedding and other event guests.  Fashions on the field and best hat winners collected the prize in Margaret River and in Broome this year and already, the orders are flowing in for 2012.

Plans are now hatching for this Milliner to get on the move again and the 2012 Hats by Felicity collection has the first headpiece complete; so hold on to your hats ladies and gents because the dust will only have a moment to settle till this Milliner is on the move again.

Hope to see you soon.

cheers,

flic

Lets get this Milliner on the move …

Happy New Year everyone and what a fabulous year 2012 is set to be.

Apart from designing oodles of new creations, another exciting task on the blackboard in the Milliner’s shed is to plan the year’s travel.

Broome’s impending race round commences 2nd June, and will run through to mid August so for these three months I look forward to being Kimberley bound but I’m wondering where this Milliner needs to be throughout the rest of the year?

If you have a racing event or any other event for which you would like to arrange either a personalised or public Hats by Felicity collection viewing, please let me know so we can get this milliner on the move.

There’s no better excuse to get the girls together; so chill the fizz and let the bubbles and fun begin.
